1. The NFL (and most professional sports, if we’re being honest)
Plagued with scandals ranging from domestic violence, to child abuse, racism, steroid use, and infidelity, professional sports have just gotten totally out of hand. Players are paid ungodly sums of money for fleeting talent that gets wasted or channeled into unsportsmanlike conduct, all the while serving as role models for impressionable kids. Sadly, the scandals have only served to draw more viewers instead of turning people off. Something needs to change.
2. “The only time I ever got a flu shot, I ended up getting the flu” and other bullshit excuses
Unless there’s a major influenza vaccine shortage, you should get vaccinated. According to the CDC, during the 2013-2014 flu season, the cumulative incidence for hospitalizations due to the flu was 35.6 per every 100,000 people. A whopping 57% of the reported hospitalizations were between the ages of 18 to 64. Clearly the need for vaccination applies to everyone, not just infants, the elderly, and those who are pregnant. Also according to statistics gathered by the CDC “during the 2013-14 influenza season, the percentage of deaths attributed to P&I (Pneumonia and Influenza) exceeded the epidemic threshold for 8 consecutive weeks.” There are different strains of influenza, and different types of vaccinations that cover some or all of the strains. If you did get sick, it’s possible that the vaccination you asked for did not cover the particular strain that made you sick, or that the vaccination was not in your system long enough for your body to generate an adequate immune response before you were exposed to the virus. Be smart.
3. Rush Limbaugh
Everything that comes out of this man’s mouth is garbage, whether it’s about immigrants, environmentalists, or sexual assault. Seriously, do a search, and you’ll see that he is the absolute worst. #StopRush
